I'm having a pretty alright Christmas eve so far. Made a lil D-24 Mixtape I thought I would share. It's mostly just what I peeped today, minus the guitar-y-er stuff.
I guess the established tracklisting, which I, ahem, forgot to include, would be something like...
1. Laura Gibson - This Is Not the End
Such an excellent intro tune. It's quiet and wintry and pretty.
2. David R. Elliott - Blue Snowflakes Start Falling
My fav. d.r.elliott track, it's got the Nebraska feel, and some of his best lyrics and phrasing.
3. Jeff Tweedy - California Stars
Probably not the best version of this song, but I don't have Mermaid Avenue on my hard drive.
4. Neon Indian - Should Have Taken Acid With You
It's kinda stupid, but fun. And when I'm stuck in my parent's basement I can relate.
5. Smith Westerns - Imagine, Pt. 3
I suppose this and track 4 account for the GorillaVs.Bear section of the playlist.
6. The Smiths - This Charming Man
I know you've heard it fifteen hundred times, but it's always nice to remember how perfect it is.
7. My Morning Jacket - Honest Man
Ohmigod, this song is rock n roll. Total jam. At Dawn, right?
8. Royal City - Dank Is the Air of Death and Loathing
I can't remember if I've already written here about Royal City, but I don't really feel like it right now, so...
9. The Radio Dept. - Every Time
This band drowns all their songs in synths but the best part is the tasteful guitar sprinkled on top.
10. Bowerbirds - Northern Lights
Nice lil acoustic ditty, "can't expect a southern girl to know the northern lights," am I rite?
11. Neko Case - Twist the Knife
Neko at her twangiest, but also most captivating. This is from 2000's Furnace Room Lullaby with her old band the Boyfriends.
12. Tim Hardin - Black Sheep Boy
1967 country song which goes on to inspire the Okkervil River record of the same name. The hiss and twang is endearing, and a nice close.
This is it.
Anyway, my family is home so I'm going to go hang. I'll see you later, internet.
